Long Term Management

Use the table below to determine the preferred home regimen for your patient based on their age and asthma severity. See the Medications tab for recommended dosing.  See the alternative therapies chart below if you are unable to obtain the preferred therapy for your patient.

*SMART*

SMART stands for Single Maintenance and Reliever Therapy. It consists of a corticosteroid combined with a long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) and is best used in patients with moderate-severe asthma. SMART can be used as early as 4 years of age. Examples of SMART include Symbicort (Budesonide/Formoterol) and Dulera (Mometasone/Formoterol). See the Medications tab for dosing information. Use the dotphrase .dcsmarttherapy to add SMART instructions to your AVS.
